Reverse text

Reverse the complete character sequence without splitting common emoji or combining marks.

Text to reverse

Processed in your browser.

Up to 10,000 UTF-16 code units. Reversal uses user-perceived grapheme clusters.

Reversed text

Enter text, then select Reverse.

How to reverse text safely

  1. Type or paste the exact text you want to reverse. Spaces, punctuation, and line breaks are part of the sequence.
  2. Select Reverse. The browser separates the input into grapheme clusters and reverses that list.
  3. Review the result and the round-trip check, then copy only the reversed text.
  4. Editing the input removes the previous output and Copy state; Clear removes the input and result.

Why grapheme clusters matter

JavaScript strings are stored as UTF-16. Reversing code units can split surrogate pairs, and reversing code points can still separate combining marks or zero-width-joiner emoji. This page uses Intl.Segmenter with grapheme granularity so sequences such as e plus a combining acute accent, national flags, and many family emoji stay together as the units users perceive.

The operation is deliberately one mode: it reverses the complete grapheme sequence. That means the last grapheme becomes first, line breaks move with the sequence, and the order inside a word changes. It is different from reversing only the order of words or reversing each line separately.

Exact reversal examples

“A👨‍👩‍👧‍👦B” becomes “B👨‍👩‍👧‍👦A”; the joined family emoji remains one cluster.

“éx” (e followed by a combining acute accent, then x) becomes “xé”. “A B” becomes “B A”, because the newline is part of the complete sequence.

Scope and limits

  • Grapheme segmentation follows the browser’s Unicode implementation. Very old browsers without Intl.Segmenter are outside the supported path rather than receiving a code-unit fallback that could corrupt text.
  • Visual direction can still be surprising for Arabic, Hebrew, bidirectional controls, or mirrored punctuation because stored order and on-screen display order are not the same thing.
  • This is not an upside-down text generator, word-order tool, translator, encryption feature, file converter, or permanent editor. It processes plain text locally and stores nothing.

Reverse text FAQ

Will emoji break apart?

The tool reverses grapheme clusters, which keeps common joined emoji, flags, and skin-tone sequences together.

Are lines reversed separately?

No. The complete text is one sequence, so line breaks also change position.

How is correctness checked?

The result is segmented and reversed again, then compared with the exact original string.

Why can right-to-left text look unexpected?

Browsers apply bidirectional display rules after the stored character order has been reversed.
