Use your potluck sheet

Plan contributions, not just a menu

Use this sheet when one organizer records who will bring each dish, or when guests will write on a printed form. Choose categories that fit your group. The initial main dishes, sides and drinks are editable examples, not a required menu.

Set up and fill the sheet

Enter event details, then open a slot to add a participant, dish, quantity and notes. Keep units with quantities, such as “1 tray” or “6 portions.” Add categories or slots as needed. A completely empty slot is open; a partial entry remains visible for follow-up. Move a slot by changing its category. Muted fields are runnable examples. Starting to edit clears all example contributions, event details and the generated sheet together. Category and slot positions stay in place. An empty field shows a faint hint again when you leave it; the hint is not saved as your entry. Real entries, added slots and imported drafts are preserved.

Example 1: filled plan

With six slots, Alex brings 1 tray of vegetable lasagna, Blair brings 1 bowl of green salad and Casey brings 2 liters of lemonade. Three slots remain open. The sheet preserves each quantity and unit instead of adding unlike units together.

Example 2: paper sign-up

Choose Blank sign-up sheet, then Create sign-up sheet below the board. The Result area shows the finished form: event details, categories and slots remain, while guest names, dishes, quantities and slot notes are blank. Use Print / Save PDF below the result without erasing the filled board. Changing the board or output format clears the result until you create the sheet again.

Can guests sign up online?

No. This is a local editor for the organizer. A text file or PDF is a static copy, not a live form or shared database. Collect responses separately and update the draft, or use the blank printed version at your gathering.

Are repeated names or dishes errors?

Not necessarily. Someone may bring two dishes, or two guests may share a name. Repetitions are shown as a reminder to check, not blocked. Use distinctive names if needed. Notes can coordinate ingredients and serving needs but cannot certify allergy safety.

What happens when I remove a category?

Use the trash button beside the category title. A confirmation names the category and shows how many slots, including filled entries, will be removed. Cancel keeps everything. Confirming deletes only that category and its slots; Undo deletion restores the last deleted category and its contents without replacing later edits elsewhere. Restoration must fit the category and slot limits. Click the category title or its pencil to rename it in place. Changes stay when you add another category. Press Enter or click outside to finish; Escape restores the previous name. A new category starts with one open slot.

How do I save and restore?

Save JSON to continue editing later. Opening a valid JSON file replaces the current draft; invalid or incompatible files leave it intact. Optional device storage belongs to this browser profile. Clear removes the local sheet, including slots, and starts empty. Previously downloaded files remain. Text output and printing always follow the currently selected filled or blank format. A new visit or reload starts with examples unless you have chosen to remember a draft. Clear empties the current page and removes the remembered draft; it does not permanently disable examples.
