How to split a PDF
Choose a local PDF no larger than 25 MiB and containing at most 200 pages. After it opens, the page range initially includes the whole document. Review the original PDF, then enter the pages you need, such as 1,3-5.
Choose one combined PDF or one PDF per selected page. Select Split PDF, check the output filenames and selected page numbers, then download the PDF or ZIP. Individual files also have their own Save buttons. Open the saved files in a PDF reader to review the page contents before sharing them.
Page numbers and original order
Numbers refer to physical positions from the first page, not printed labels such as i, ii or A-1. Commas separate selections and a hyphen includes both ends of a range. Blank selections, reversed ranges, decimals and nonexistent pages are errors. Repeated pages are included only once. The word all is also accepted.
Pages remain in their original order even when you type them out of order. Splitting copies page content rather than taking screenshots, retaining page dimensions, rotation, text and image content. It does not resize, compress, crop, rearrange, redact or apply OCR.
Two worked examples
For an eight-page document, 1,3-5 produces a four-page PDF containing original pages 1,3,4,5. With separate output it produces four files named page-001.pdf, page-003.pdf, page-004.pdf and page-005.pdf inside one ZIP.
Entering 5,2,2 in a six-page document produces pages 2 and 5, once each, in that order. If page 2 is landscape or rotated, it keeps those page properties. It is not turned into the same shape as page 5.
Limits and saving
Encrypted documents are rejected without attempting to remove protection. Interactive forms and signatures are outside this tool’s scope: export a static copy you are allowed to edit first. Bookmarks, document metadata, links between pages and signature validity are not guaranteed in newly created documents. Keep the original when those features matter.
The combined output limit is 100 MiB. Separate files may repeat shared resources, so file size can grow. A conservative check compares source size times selected page count with the limit before creating separate files; choose fewer pages or one combined PDF if it refuses. Corrupt PDFs must be repaired or re-exported in their original application.
Work happens in this browser tab. No account, upload or project storage is used. Changing the range, output mode or file discards the previous result immediately. Remove keeps the options while clearing the file. A rejected replacement preserves the previous valid PDF. Cancel discards unfinished output; nothing is downloaded until you choose Save or Download.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a scanned PDF?
Yes. Scanned pages are copied as pages. Their images remain images; the tool does not recognize text or improve scan quality.
Will the original file change?
No. New files are created. Keep the original and check the saved copies before using them elsewhere.
Does selecting pages hide confidential data?
This is page extraction, not redaction or sanitization. A copied page may contain hidden objects or annotations. Use a dedicated redaction workflow for sensitive content.
Why is a ZIP larger than the source?
Each page is a complete PDF and may need its own fonts and images. ZIP uses storage without recompressing already compressed PDF streams. It is for collecting files, not guaranteed size reduction.
