How to convert an image to PNG
- Choose one JPEG, static WebP or PNG file.
- Check the small source preview, then select Convert to PNG.
- Review the decoded dimensions and result preview before downloading the PNG.
What the conversion changes
PNG stores the decoded pixels in a different file format. JPEG detail lost before conversion cannot be restored, while transparent WebP or PNG pixels remain transparent when the browser decodes them correctly.
A PNG source is re-encoded rather than copied byte for byte. EXIF, camera details, comments, color-profile data and other original metadata are not promised in the new file.
Dimensions, orientation and limits
The converter asks the browser to apply embedded JPEG orientation and then uses the decoded width and height for the PNG. It checks the output header again before enabling the download.
The 20 MB, 24-megapixel and 12,000-pixel-side limits bound browser memory. A file within the byte limit can still be rejected when its decoded pixel count is too large.
Example and supported scope
A 1600 × 1200 JPEG becomes a 1600 × 1200 PNG after normal orientation. A transparent 800 × 800 WebP becomes a transparent 800 × 800 PNG. The result may be larger because PNG and JPEG compress pixels differently.
This page does not edit, crop, upscale, restore quality, convert batches, fetch URLs or accept SVG, HEIC, PDF or animation.
Privacy and checking your result
The selected image is processed locally and is not uploaded by this tool. The shared site may still record ordinary page-view analytics after consent, but the image bytes and filename are not analytics values.
Open the downloaded PNG in the app where you will use it. Check orientation, transparency, size and color before deleting your source file; conversion is not a backup service.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG improve JPEG quality?
No. It avoids another JPEG encoding step, but it cannot recreate detail already discarded by JPEG compression.
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes for decoded PNG and WebP alpha. JPEG has no transparent pixels to preserve.
Why can the PNG be larger?
PNG is lossless for pixel data and often compresses photographs less efficiently than JPEG or WebP.
Is my original file changed?
No. The tool creates a separate download and does not modify the selected file.
