GIF to video

Convert a local animated GIF into an MP4 video, with a solid background and a fixed number of repeats.

Input

Processed in your browser.

Your file stays in this browser.

GIF · up to 10 MiB, 1,280 px per side, 1 megapixel, 300 frames and 15 seconds per cycle. Total decoded frame pixels: 80 million.

One repeat is one complete GIF cycle, regardless of the original loop setting. Output: up to 30 seconds, without audio.

The first conversion downloads about 31 MB of engine files from jsDelivr. Your GIF is not uploaded.

How to use

  1. Choose a GIF stored on your device. Check the source preview and its dimensions, duration and frame count before converting.
  2. Choose a maximum width, a white or black background, and one, two or three repeats. Smaller dimensions generally need less processing time and make a smaller video. The tool never enlarges a small source.
  3. Select Convert to MP4. Wait for the engine download and conversion, or use Cancel to stop the current job. When the result is ready, play the MP4 preview and download it. Keep this tab open until processing finishes.

What the result means

This tool creates a silent H.264 video in an MP4 container. It is useful when an editor, slide deck or messaging service accepts video but does not accept animated GIF files. The result is an actual video file, not a GIF with a changed filename.

A repeat means one complete pass through the source frames. The source GIF may loop forever, but the exported video always has a finite duration. Its target length is the duration of one pass multiplied by your selected repeat count. A video player may have its own separate repeat setting.

GIF transparency is flattened onto the selected solid background because this MP4 output does not preserve an alpha channel. An odd image dimension is padded to the next even pixel for H.264 compatibility. Frame timing uses a 100-frame-per-second output clock; GIF delays of zero or one centisecond are treated as 100 milliseconds. This is an explicit playback policy for extremely short or missing delays.

Examples

A 320 × 240 GIF with a two-second cycle and three repeats produces a 320 × 240 video with a six-second target duration. Choosing a maximum width of 640 pixels does not enlarge that source.

A 641 × 359 GIF kept at original size produces a 642 × 360 MP4. The extra edge is padding, not a crop. A transparent logo uses the selected white or black background. Compare the preview on both backgrounds before choosing the one that works in your destination.

Limits and troubleshooting

Input is limited to 10 MiB, 1,280 pixels per side, one megapixel, 300 frames and 15 seconds per cycle. A separate budget limits the total of full-canvas frame pixels to 80 million. Any one of these limits can reject a file even when its compressed file size is small. Output must be no longer than 30 seconds.

These are admission limits, not a guarantee that every device can process the largest accepted GIF. Conversion can require substantially more working memory than the compressed file. On a phone, start with a short, small animation. If loading fails or the job times out, try a smaller source or output width and keep the tab in the foreground.

Changing a file or an output setting cancels the current job and invalidates the old download. Remove releases the chosen file while preserving the output options. A damaged replacement file is rejected; the previous valid source remains available. No server conversion is used as a fallback.

Frequently asked questions

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. Your GIF is processed in this browser. The conversion engine is downloaded from a version-pinned public CDN, which receives that download request but not your GIF. The first engine load is about 31 MB.

Why is there no sound?

GIF has no audio track. This converter does not invent sound or combine your animation with a separate audio file.

Will the MP4 look exactly like the GIF?

The frame content and timing are converted, but H.264 uses lossy compression and a solid background. Resizing, even-dimension padding and video color conversion can change some pixels.

Does this work offline?

A fresh session needs access to the engine files. Do not rely on the browser cache as a guaranteed offline installation. If the download is blocked, the tool reports a failure and can be retried.

Can I convert any GIF on any phone?

No. The file must pass the displayed limits, the browser must support the required worker and WebAssembly features, and the device needs enough memory. An accepted filename alone does not prove successful decoding.
