How to use
- Enter the full trip distance and select kilometres or miles.
- Enter measured fuel efficiency and choose L/100 km, km/L, US mpg, or Imperial mpg.
- Enter your numeric fuel price and its litre or gallon basis, then the number of people sharing.
- Select Calculate. The cost stays in the currency represented by your price; no exchange conversion occurs.
Formula and unit handling
L/100 km multiplies kilometres by the stated litres per 100 km; km/L divides kilometres by efficiency. MPG divides miles by mileage, then converts the selected US or Imperial gallons to litres.
Total cost = fuel volume in the price unit × entered price. Cost per person = total cost ÷ people. Full precision is retained before display rounding.
Examples
Metric trip
For 300 km at 6 L/100 km, fuel is 18 L. At 1.70 per litre the total is 30.60; three people pay 10.20 each.
US mpg trip
For 240 miles at 30 US mpg, fuel is 8 US gallons. At 3.50 per US gallon the total is 28.
Limits
- Use measured or representative efficiency; traffic, weather, load, route, and driving style can change actual use.
- US and Imperial mpg are not interchangeable. Keep the fuel-price gallon unit consistent with the price you enter.
- The estimate excludes tolls, parking, charging, maintenance, taxes not already in the price, and currency conversion.
- It does not look up live fuel prices or guarantee driving range.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there two mpg choices?
A US gallon is about 3.785 L; an Imperial gallon is about 4.546 L, so the same mpg number represents different efficiency.
Should distance be one-way or return?
Enter the complete distance you want costed. Double a one-way distance yourself when the trip includes the return.
Can I use any currency?
Yes. The output uses the same currency as your entered fuel price without conversion.
How is the split calculated?
The total fuel cost is divided equally by the whole-number group size.
