Open and read a document
This reader is for checking the readable content of a Word DOCX file or a plain TXT file without installing a word processor. Choose a file from your device. Its name and loading state appear beside the controls. When reading succeeds, the document itself appears below the Document heading. You can also try either example; these small files go through the same input validation and reader.
Search document finds literal text without regard to letter case. Use Previous and Next to move between matches. Search is limited to 100 characters and shows up to the first 500 matches. Zoom changes the reading size from 75% to 200%. Wide tables stay within a scrollable document area rather than widening the whole page.
What DOCX viewing preserves
The reader converts DOCX content into a simple reading view. Basic paragraphs, headings, bold and italic text, lists, line breaks, tables and embedded PNG or JPEG pictures are supported. Basic horizontal and vertical merged cells are preserved when the document structure is supported. The provided DOCX example lets you inspect those elements with multilingual text.
This is not a copy of Word's page layout. Fonts, margins, page breaks, columns, table decoration, list numbering details and floating-object placement may differ. Headers, footers, comments, tracked changes, equations and complex embedded objects are not reliable here. Read any warning and compare important or complete content in the application that created the file. A successful opening is not proof that every original element was preserved.
Examples and practical use
Open Word example opens a small reading sample with a numbered list, a table containing Pencils 12 and Paper 24, a merged Supply list heading, a vertically merged Shared cell and a picture of three gray bars. Searching for Pencils should select that table text. Zooming changes its display without changing the original file.
Open text example opens a short text sample with several languages and the same two supply counts. Line breaks and spacing are preserved in the text view. Search for Paper to find the matching line. You can use the viewer for a quick reading check, but it does not edit, convert or save changes to either example or your own file.
File limits and troubleshooting
DOCX input is limited to 8 MiB and TXT to 2 MiB. DOCX packages may contain at most 512 entries, with at most 8 MiB in any expanded entry and 32 MiB expanded in total. The reader checks actual decompressed bytes as well as declared sizes. Display is limited to 500,000 text characters and 40,000 content nodes. Reading is stopped after 20 seconds.
Only embedded PNG and JPEG images are displayed, up to 64 pictures, 4 MiB and 4,096 pixels per dimension each, with 16 million pixels in total. Other or larger pictures can be omitted with a warning. If a file is too large or complex, reduce its pictures or split it in the original editor. Renaming a PDF or old DOC to DOCX does not convert it.
TXT accepts valid UTF-8 or UTF-16 with a byte-order mark. If text encoding fails, export a UTF-8 text file. Encrypted files, macros, embedded objects, split archives and ZIP64 packaging are not supported. Re-export a normal unencrypted DOCX when needed.
File replacement and privacy
Choosing another file immediately removes the previous document. Cancel stops the current reading task; Remove clears the document and releases its rendered content. Neither operation deletes or modifies the file on your device. Search text and zoom can remain selected when changing files, while match counts are recomputed for the new content.
Processing happens locally in a temporary browser worker. The tool does not upload your document, save its contents or fetch external references from it. Hyperlinks are displayed as text, and document scripts or macros do not run. Refreshing or closing the page discards the current reading view.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open PDF, DOC or ODT?
No. This page supports DOCX and TXT only. Use the original application to save a supported format.
Why does the layout look different from Word?
The viewer preserves readable structure rather than reproducing the original pages and typography.
Can I open a password-protected document?
No. Open it in its original application and save an unencrypted copy if appropriate.
Can I edit or download a converted document?
No. This tool is for viewing, search and zoom. The original file remains unchanged.
Why is a link not clickable?
External links and references are disabled so viewing a document does not open remote content.
