Make a camping checklist you can actually use

This editor turns a short starting list into your own printable packing checklist. It is for the preparation stage: decide what you intend to bring, adjust quantities, mark what is packed, and take a paper copy or PDF with you. It is not a gear-weight calculator, a campsite booking service, or a complete expedition plan. The starting items are ordinary examples written for this tool. They cannot account for your destination, conditions, experience, equipment, or individual requirements.

Edit the list

Give the list a recognizable title, such as “Weekend campsite”. Focusing an example field starts your own list with two rows, keeping the focused row and anything you already added or edited. Use Add item below the category where the item belongs. Each new row appears there and its name field is focused, ready for typing. Enter names and quantities directly. Categories appear as headings rather than repeated dropdowns. Drag a dotted handle before or after another row to change the order, or onto a category heading to move the item there. Keyboard users can focus a handle and use Up/Down within its category or Left/Right between categories. The trash button removes only that row. The preview and saved draft follow the same category and item order. Gray text is an example. Print the initial example as shown. Load starter list returns to this muted example state and discards the previous saved draft after you confirm replacement. Focusing a text field starts your own list; empty fields show hints again when you leave them. Hints are not saved or printed as your entries.

Use the checkboxes deliberately

Packed means you have marked the entire item row as ready. If the quantity is 3, one checked box means all three are packed, not one of three. The tool does not track partial quantities or inspect your belongings. Uncheck all clears only the checkmarks and retains the names, categories, quantities, and title. Clear removes all items and the title, while keeping your categories. Load starter list replaces the current contents with the short starting list, including fresh unchecked boxes; use it only when you want to start over.

Example 1: packing for two people

Choose Clear and enter a title such as “Two-person trip”. Under Shelter & sleep, choose Add item and enter “Sleeping bag” with quantity 2. Under Food & kitchen, choose Add item and enter “Cup and utensils” with quantity 2. The preview shows both rows with quantity 2 in their respective categories. Checking Sleeping bag adds a checkmark to that printed row without changing its quantity. If one sleeping bag is still missing, leave the row unchecked or split it into two explicitly named rows. Quantities are whole item counts, not weights, volumes, servings, or automatic per-person multipliers.

Example 2: a personal addition

Under Other, choose Add item, and name the new row “Card game” with quantity 1. The preview gains an Other section containing that item and an empty checkbox. To change its category later, drag its handle onto a different category heading. To change its position, drop it before or after another item in that category. The preview updates to the same order. Removing the row removes it from the preview immediately. Long names wrap in the printable output; specific, reasonably short names keep the sheet easy to scan.

Print or save as PDF

The preview and print output use the same current title, categories, names, quantities, and checkmarks. Print / Save PDF opens the browser’s native print dialog; choose your printer or the PDF destination offered by your device. Check the destination, paper size, scale, and page breaks there before confirming. Long lists continue onto more pages rather than shrinking every item onto one sheet. Browser navigation, editing controls, and the guide are excluded from the intended print output. Turn off browser-added headers and footers if you do not want the date or page URL.

Saving, limits, and useful checks

The list is saved automatically in this browser when local storage is available. Returning to this site in the same browser restores it; the list is not uploaded or synchronized to another device. Browser cleanup, private browsing, or storage restrictions can remove or prevent that copy, so print or save an important list before closing. A storage error is shown without blocking editing. The limit is 80 rows, 100 characters per item name, 80 characters for the title, and whole quantities from 1 to 999. A blank title, blank item, or invalid quantity disables printing until corrected. Review the list against your own plans and the campsite’s current information; a full set of checkmarks is not a guarantee of complete or safe preparation.

Does checking an item hide it from the printout?

No. All current rows remain on the sheet, with their current checkbox state. To remove an item entirely, use its trash button. To print a fresh checklist with the same contents, use Uncheck all first.

Can I change the categories?

Each category has its own Add item button below its list. To recategorize an existing item, drag its handle onto the destination category heading, including an empty category. Left/Right on the focused handle does the same without dragging. Up/Down changes its order within a category. Use Add category below all the groups to create a new one. The pencil (Edit) and trash (Delete) icons sit beside each category title. Their form opens directly beneath that title; the new-category form opens below Add category. Names must be unique and contain 1–40 characters; you can keep up to 20 categories. Deleting a category with items requires choosing another category to receive them. Their names, quantities and checkmarks are retained, and moved items follow the destination’s existing items. Cancel keeps the category and items unchanged. Empty categories are removed immediately; the last category cannot be deleted. Load starter list restores the five default categories along with the example items after replacement confirmation.

Will changing language translate my saved item names?

No. Interface labels and unchanged default category names change language. Saved titles, item names, and category names you added or edited remain as written. Loading the starter list replaces that content with the selected language’s starting items. Save your previous output first if you want to keep it.

Why is printing unavailable?

Check the title and every item row for an error. An added row needs a name, and quantities must be whole numbers from 1 to 999. Delete an unwanted empty row rather than leaving it in the list. At least one valid item is required.

Is this an offline camping app or safety checklist?

No. It is a browser editor for preparing and exporting a list. Local draft saving is a convenience, not an offline availability or backup guarantee. Confirm destination-specific needs independently and carry your saved or printed copy where appropriate.
